Always carefully question your vascular surgeon about the safety and side effects for each type of treatment. All medical and surgical interventions carry risks:
- Sclerotherapy complications (less than 1%): skin discoloration, skin necrosis that will heal overtime, allergic reaction and deep venous thrombosis (extremely rare).
- Endovenous ablation complications (approximately 1%): skin discoloration, skin burn or necrosis that will heal overtime and deep venous thrombosis.
- Vein stripping complications (approximately 1%): nerve injury that manifests with leg and foot numbness, bleeding and deep venous thrombosis.
